New Digs

"The Bridge" from 69 Street Pier

Ciao a tutti,

On July 20th, I left the isle of Manhattan, a place I’ve called home for over 36 years. I crossed the East River, and planted new roots in Brooklyn! Bay Ridge, to be exact. It’s been something I’ve considered for some time. I stalled for a while because I enjoyed calling Manhattan my home … the convenience, the diversity, the culture, and yes, even the grit … sometimes, especially the grit.

But my apartment seemed to get smaller, and my desire for more space, light, and to be closer to family began to tug at my inner senses.

As I still teetered on the edge of indecision and inactivity, Uni stepped in and gave me the final nudge I needed. You see, my building, which was never perfect but was always a sacred space for me, began to change. A critter problem started to get more frequent, and I found myself in a situation where I was carrying a can of Raid with me every time I entered the kitchen and bathroom. Yes, those pesky roaches had taken over. I have some stories that I’ll keep to myself - all but one. I don’t share it to overwhelm, but because this moment was the final push I needed to move me from the indecisive ledge into taking action.

You see, I was headed out to buy some mousetraps. Yes, Minnie had infiltrated the sacred space too. That morning I decided to switch to the good old-fashioned traps since nothing else was working. Frustrated I shoved my shoe on in a very determined way and that’s when I felt it … No. No. No. … Yes - my foot was co-habiting with Minnie!

Admittedly I’m still experiencing some PTSD from that moment, but as awful as it was, I appreciate that little gal because I no longer teetered on the edge of change. I went full force into action mode. Sometimes I feel a little sad that her head was chopped off, but bitch should’ve stayed outta my house.

Allora, I happen to be a great manifester, and no sooner was my decision made than my cousin called, saying there was an apartment in her building. I went to see it the next day, and before I knew it, I was signing a lease!

I am now officially a Brooklyn-ite, although there will always be a piece of my heart that shines in Manhattan.

In between unpacking and redesigning my new (spacious, light, airy) home, I found myself taking some twirls to explore my new hood. It is quite wonderful. I’m one block away from Shore Road and views of the Verrazano Bridge, although I’m told if I want to be considered a true Bay Ridger it’s called “The Bridge.” Noted! There are tons of great restaurants, I’m close to my family, and there’s potential for building additional community. Of course, I’ve taken some snaps along the way, and that’s what I’d like to share with you today.

Welcome to my new digs, people. I look forward to sharing them with you.

Big Love,
PatriciaG

Prints and Notecards of my new snaps will be available soon.
