Well it's almost here. After all the phases of planning and daydreaming, I leave for Italy on Tuesday. It always amazes me how my daydream of returning to Italy starts with my walking up to the calendar and choosing a departure date. There have been many times I've wished to go, but my gut tells me the timing isn't right. Then there are times like this one, when I don't know exactly why, but I know that I must go. So I put one foot in front of the other, make the plans, book the flight, rent the apartment and the rest....well I leave it open to guidance, instinct and trust.
I love the empty journal that I bring with me. The pre-departure makes me wonder what words will fill the pages of my journal. Who will I meet? What will I experience? How will I grow? There will be both moments of elation and moments filled with challenges. The prospect of these 'yet to be written moments' simultaneously excite & inspire me. They make me giggle, as well as scare the shit out of me to be quite honest. It's the unknown of stepping out of one's comfort zone and following an unfamiliar path that is the beauty of travel.
I thank all of you who have expressed your beautiful words of encouragement to me. I pack them along with my other essentials. I look forward to sharing my journey and am excited at the prospect of taking you along for the ride. Italy here we come!
